Visa at Casina: What Happens Between Tap and Balance
A card is the method most people reach for first, and in Portugal it usually means a Visa debit card issued alongside a current account. It works at Casina the way it works anywhere online: the amount is authorised, the balance moves immediately, and the whole thing takes about as long as typing the card number. The details worth knowing are on the way back out, not on the way in.

Depositing with a Visa card
In the cashier you enter the card number, the expiry and the CVV, then confirm the payment in your bank's app under 3-D Secure — the same second step your bank already applies to any online purchase. The card data itself is handled by a PCI DSS certified gateway rather than by the casino, which is why a card can be charged again later without the operator ever holding the full number.
Debit and credit behave identically at the cashier and very differently in your finances. A debit card spends money you have; a credit card borrows it, and gambling transactions are frequently treated as cash advances by the issuer, which can mean interest from day one with no grace period. That is a reason to prefer debit here that has nothing to do with the casino.
Why the payout is slower than the deposit
A card payout is not a transfer — it is a refund pushed back along the original authorisation, and it has to travel through the scheme and then through your issuing bank before it appears. Once the operator approves the request, expect 1 to 3 business days, weekends excluded, against the €20 minimum that applies across the cashier. Players who want the same money faster generally withdraw to MB WAY or Skrill instead, both of which clear inside a day.
Because it is a refund, it can only go back to the card that paid. An expired or replaced card breaks that link, and the operator will redirect the payment to a SEPA transfer to your own IBAN — which is fine, but adds the transfer's own timetable on top.
Two practical warnings
First, some Portuguese issuers block or flag gambling merchant categories by default, and a refusal at the cashier with a perfectly funded card is usually that block rather than a fault at the casino. It is lifted, or confirmed, by your bank. Second, if you are using the card at all, use its own controls: most banking apps now let you set a monthly online spending cap or switch gambling payments off entirely, which is a far more reliable limit than willpower.
The full comparison of rails, euro thresholds and timings sits on the payments overview, and the payout procedure is set out under withdrawals.
